Introduction

Hello! My name is Emily and I am a biology major at OU! The coolest thing about my major is that I've met so many amazing people through it, professors and friends! Also, it has taught me to work really hard for what I want. I also met my boyfriend at OU because we are both biology majors. We are both graduating this semester. I don't know if there is a lot that is interesting about me so I will just write some random facts about myself. I am El Salvadoran and originally from California but I don't remember much of California because I moved to Pauls valley, Oklahoma when I was 2.  I have four siblings and I am the third out of the four. I have 2 dogs a great Dane named Belle and a German shepherd named Sam. I also have a  bearded dragon named Drogon who is a smart little fella! I love to sing but I may not be very good at it. I play a little of the drums but again, not very good at it. I work at express currently which I really like because of the people I've met and it is pushed me to not be as shy anymore. I love to cook and eat! My favorite food would probably be panes rellenos which is an authentic Salvadoran dish and my least favorite food would have to be chili.  My dream ultimately is to be a PA and to be able to help people around me because I've had so many people help me through my schooling. My non-career dreams are to be able to travel especially to Malta and Japan! I would also ultimately want to be able to take care of my parents they have worked so hard for my siblings and to put us through school.

More recently, my boyfriend and I have enjoyed a lot of mini adventures like random hikes. It has been so much fun! I took him to see the OKC museum of Art and it was a blast! Sadly, the day we decided to go the glass art exhibit was closed for construction. It was still tons of fun and hopefully next time we go he will get to see it. We have also had a lot of picnics and tried to see the brighter sight of things in this crazy time. I hope everyone is well and are staying healthy!

  1. Hi Emily! I think that it is really cool that one of your favorite foods is an authentic El Salvadoran dish... It shows that you really value your roots and I find that to be so admirable. I had never heard of Malta before reading your introduction post, but it is definitely on my list of places I would like to visit now! It's super great and inspiring that you and your boyfriend have chosen to stay positive during these crazy times!!

  2. I am so excited to see what kinds of stories you will connect with here in the India class, Emily! And a bearded dragon... that is so cool! Maybe your bearded dragon could go on some kind of adventure in India and hang out with the NAGAS: they are the supernatural snakes-but-not-snakes who are an important part of both Buddhist and Hindu stories in India: more about Nagas - link (if you know Nagini from Harry Potter, this is where her name came from) ... and if you go to Japan, you might see some echoes of India there too; here is a cool video about the Hindu gods who are worshipped now in Japan: Japanese Gods Are Hindu Gods - link ... like stories, gods and goddesses like to travel from one place to another! :-)

  3. Hi Emily! It's great to meet you! You and your boyfriend are super cute and it looks like you guys have a lot of fun together!! I also hope to be a PA today so I can relate to the struggles you might currently be going through as well :). You should post pictures of your bearded dragon, it would be a treat to see him. I had a pet snake once too, but in my personal experience, cold-blooded reptiles can be difficult to keep up with.

  5. Hi Emily! My roommate has a bearded dragon named Joe and sometimes I get to feed him worms. Bearded dragons are so cool. Your life sounds really interesting and spontaneous! I like the photos you posted from your random hikes and your museum trip.
I also really admire that you want to become a PA and "pay it forward" to the people who have helped you throughout your education. That is a good goal.

  6. Hey Emily, super nice to meet you!! I think it is really cool that you want to be a PA because a lot of my friends want to do the same. Personally, I don't think i ever could, but go you!! It is really unique that you have a pet bearded dragon, I would love to see a picture! Japan is definitely a cool spot to visit, I went there a couple years ago and would definitely urge you to do the same given the opportunity. Anyways, nice meeting you!!
    Best,
    Saad

  7. Hi Emily!

It's so cool that you have so many different pets especially your bearded lizard! I have always wanted to have a dog, but my parents have never allowed us to get one. I like to hike as well. This quarantine my friends and I have been exploring different trails around Oklahoma and ranking them.

I really enjoyed learning more about you, good luck with the rest of the semester!

  10. Hi Emily, your dedication to your scholastics is inspiring to all! Majoring such a competitive field at a qualified university can be difficult, but you seem to be holding yourself well. I think it is awesome that you and your boyfriend have such similar interests and the photo of you two at an art gallery is amazing! I also love to cook and eat, and I've definitely upped my kitchen game since before quarantine started. I hope your last semester goes smoothly.

  12. Hey Emily,
it was awesome to hear your introduction post. That is really cool that you came here from California, have you been back there before. I went once to San Diego and I really enjoyed it even though it is way different from here. It is awesome that you and your boyfriend have managed to still have fun during this hard time. Good luck this semester.

  13. Hi Emily! Nice to meet you! That is so cool that you have a German Shepherd. I also have one named Max! I think they are the best dogs and are so loyal and fun to be around! I also enjoy going to art museums. In particular my favorite museum was in Madrid where I got to see my favorite painting Guernica by Pablo Picasso. Good luck this semester!

  14. Yo Emily! A bearded dragon? I have never even heard of those until now. Is the name of your pet a reference to Game of Thrones? That is so cool! You and your boyfriend look so cute together. I really like that you are working on trying not to be shy, because that is something I work on myself! I hate chili as well.

  15. Hi Emily!
Your pictures are so cute! Also, I have never seen a bearded dragon before, nor do I know anyone who has one as a pet! What is it like? It's really interesting that you have a traditional dish called panes rellenos, I'm Mexican and something we have that sounds really similar are chiles rellenos! It's crazy how similar cultures can actually be!

  16. Hey Emily,
Nice to meet you! You and your boyfriend look like a nice couple. I am also a biology major and I can definitely agree that it takes a lot of tact and dedication. I have a lot of professors in friends taking my different biology courses. It’s actually really cool that you have a lot of pets. One of my friends used to have a bearded dragon and he told me they are really high maintenance. I also would really love to travel to Japan, that is actually at the top of my all time travel list.

  17. Hi Emily!

I love the pictures you included with this introduction! It's also so cool that you have a bearded dragon and I would love to see a picture of him as well. It's awesome that you love to sing. I'm just like you in the fact that I love to sing, but I'm honestly not very good at it. It's okay though because you should continue to belt out that music and not care what anyone thinks!

    Have an amazing day!

  19. Hello Emily, I am so happy for you and your boyfriend. You guys seem like a cute couple that will make it far in life. I am also a pre-med biology major, and is my absolute passion. It sure does take a lot of hard work and dedication to get to the final goal, however it is a necessary process in this journey. Keep up the good work, I hope I see you in the medical field in the future.

  20. Hey Emily!

Your introduction was great! I'm glad and happy for you and your boyfriend! I'm also a biology major and its my senior year. I'm glad you are a very determined person, from what I could see in your introduction. I don't think I've met anyone from El Salvador here at OU. I am also Latino, Mexican specifically. Also, its really cool how you have a Great Dane and a German Shephard. I personally think those are the prettiest!

  21. Hi Emily,
I think it's cool that your a biology major as I am a microbiology major myself! You and your boyfriend look so happy together and it's good to see that you guys are hiking and looking out for your health. I also moved to Oklahoma when I was young, but from South Korea. Also, I was a bit older than 2 haha (10). I used to have a blind golden lab but he died from old age and when I say I miss him, it's no exaggeration.

  23. Hi Emily. I am glad to read you have had a good experience at OU and made some many friends. You seem like a really positive person, which is awesome, because positive people are the greatest and the most fun to be around! I enjoyed reading about your pets. I am a cat person myself, but can still relate to being an animal lover. Dogs are super cute, I just don't have the time to get one. I hope the rest of your semester goes well.

  24. Hey Emily! I love all of the pictures from your little vacations you have taken with your boyfriend! I really wish I could take one right about now. Also, I don't know why, but for some reason Malta and Japan have never been in my sights as for a travel destination! After looking up some pictures, I definitely need to redirect my sights. Anyways, nice to meet you, even if it is so late in the semester!
